Remove Nero Scout from Nero 7

Urgh, just reinstalled my system (upgraded my rig :p), and installed Nero 7.0.1.4 Premium. Just the core Nero program though, no inCD, speedtest, Cover designer or that other crap.

After rebooting my system I see something called Nero Scout in my Windows Explorer. Browsed through all the nero options, even reinstalled it to make sure I didn’t miss the option not to install it, guess what … it isn’t there.

So, here’s how you remove it:

Go to start > run and type:

regsvr32 /u
“%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll”

I think you don’t even have to reboot to have that scout shit removed. *yeey*

Update

I installed Nero 7 demo (version 7.2.0.3) and Ahead included an option to disable Nero Scout, no need to unregister a DLL anymore :) Thanks Hank (see comments)

In fact, you’re never sure if you need to reboot or not when unregistering COM objects from the registry.
If Windows loads this COM dll @ boot time, and does not release it, you will have to kill any process that is using this dll. In other words, just reboot the thing to be sure.
Something else: if this is part of the Nero 7 suite, and you have used Nero, check to see if it hasn’t been reregistered afterwards, it could be that Nero needs this dll for one or the other obscure reason.
If this is the fact, you can either accept the fact that it will always be there, or you could try deleting it, possibly making some never used feature of Nero inaccessible, or even worse…

Well, I’ve deleted the sucker 4 days ago, and haven’t run into any problems writing CDRs and DVDRs with Nero 7 …. So I guess it’s safe to remove.

Thanks so much for posting the resolution for removing Nero Scout. I followed your instructions and it’s gone! Yippeeee!

The command does not work for me. It says module not found. Nero Scout is driving me nuts. Any alternate solution?

    I’m using version 7.0.8.2 … what’s your version? (Nero > help > about Nero)

Maybe the name of the DLL has changed in your version …

Version 7.2.0.3 and the DLL is still MediaLibraryNSE.dll.

I’m installing VMware as we speak to test that version …

Apparently Nero included an “enable Nero Scout” option in their last version! No need to unregister a DLL, jus disable it :)

  11. On 28 April 2006 at 23h24, Hank wrote

Yes, I disabled it, but that did not remove it from the taskbar. Now I can’t open Nero Scout anymore – “Initialization Error – Please re-install Nero”. Really, don’t those people understand how long that download is and all the work involved. I don’t need Nero Scout. Could there be another way to get of off of the taskbar?

  12. On 29 April 2006 at 00h18, Selder wrote

When I disabled Nero Scout, it dissapeared from my taskbar too … Maybe you should try removing Nero 7 completely (and renaming it’s program folder in *.old) and reinstall it?

  13. On 29 April 2006 at 02h24, Hank wrote

I still had the download so I unistalled and re-installed. During the install it asks, “Do you wish to enable Nero Scout” with a checkmark box. I unchecked it and I am now free of the thing. Thanks for all your help, Selder.

A user in afterdawn had the solution to getting it off the taskbar. Open Scout from the task bar, select “options”, then check the box to enable Scout. Once enabled the two checkboxes below can be unchecked. Uncheck them, uncheck the “Enable Scout” box, and it goes away.

This problem is off the thread but still Nero 7 and I didn’t know how else to put it up. Since I re-installed nero 7.0.8.2 I lost the ability to use the lame mp3 encoder. When I try to re-register it, says ‘you are already registered’. If I try to enter my lame serial number from the product setup manually, I get ‘this is a valid nero serial number but not for this product’. Any suggestions?

Right click on Nero Scout and click Options.
In there you can remove nero scout from windows explorer.
If it is greyed out, check the enable button up top, then uncheck the box to remove it from explorer, then uncheck the enable nero scout box again and it’s gone.

I have the answer for my previous question.
I just searched for ‘Nero Scout’ in registry and removed the ley. Then the icon name became ‘Other’. I right clicked on it and did ‘delete’! Thats it.

When your search in the registry didn’t have any affect, another thing you could try is reinstalling the application with the same configuration as before (same installationfolder and stuff like that) and then removing it again…

    @Hank

To activate Lame for Nero 7

    H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\INSTALLATION\FAMILIES\NERO7\INFO
Right click on info folder….select (New > String Value)
Right click on New String and rename to Serial7
After changing string name, you now must modify the string (Right click and select Modify)
Type in your Lame MP3 serial number and click OK

I’m having problems installing Nero 7.0.1.4 Demo version. I got suckered into clicking on “check for a newer version” and my Nero won’t work after that. I tried to uninstall every Nero file I found with no luck. I did a total system recovery and when I try to reinstall Nero from a disc I created, it’s giving me a ‘fatal internal error’ meassage and says to reinstall Nero. Vicious circle! anyone out there ever have this problem or can give me some direction to get Nero working on my computer again? THANX in advance

Indeed, in more recent versions of Nero, there is an option to disable the scout, in previous versions such an option wasn’t there…

    Just unregister the following files:
    NeroSearchTray.dll
    NeroSearchBar.dll
    NeroSearch.dll
    MediaLibraryNSE.dll

    They are located in:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\

    The command is regsvr32 /u

To navigate in the Command Console (cmd.exe) use:
    - to get to parent dir: cd ..
    - to go to a subdir in the current dir: cd
    - you might want to type the first letter(s) and then press TAB to autocomplete the name of the dir/file

I am encountering a similar problem with Nero Scout. However, it seems to have indexed all my videos and whenever this program is disabled, the icon for it dissappears from my computer (it looks like is another drive) and I can not accessed my videos anymore. I am afraid that by deleting the key for this, it will definitely remove or stop access to my files.

  32. On 1 February 2008 at 00h26, Selder wrote

Hm. Haven’t seen that behaviour anywhere… maybe disabling the program disabled the NeroVision Codec too? Try installing CCCP and see if you can play your videos with that.
