Install SimpleSky on iPhone 2.0.x

Yesterday I upgraded my iPhone to 2.0.1, and after playing with it for 2 minutes I wanted to revert back to 1.0.4 because I was sick of the default theme.

I searched for a repository with the SimpleSky theme, but with no success.

Then I decided to give a manual install of SimpleSky a chance. Here’s what I did.

  • Figure out how to get Cydia on your iPhone. Use your friend.
  • Install OpenSSH and Winterboard and reboot your iPhone.
  • Download the SimpleSky them from here. (registration is free)
  • Connect to your iPhone via WinSCP. (or any other client)
  • go to /private/var/stash/Themes.abcdef. (where abcdef is random)
  • upload the SimpleSky theme in that directory as SimpleSky.theme.
  • Activate the theme in Winterboard, et voila.

One thing I have noticed is that the options in Winterboard are … well … “what options?” comes to mind. For example: there is no option to disable only the dock icon labels, like Summerboard had.
So let’s do it manually:

Copy this file in the /private/var/stash/Themes.abcdef/SimpleSky.theme directory. Re-apply theme and go!
